After googling 'Cat starts house fire' looking for this story, I found six or seven more individual accounts of cats doing similar things! Maybe this isn't so uncommon as I thought. So it got me thinking if Jim-Cat was capable of such a thing. After much consideration I thought, "Nah, he's not smart enough to think of that all on his own. But Omar Lucas is." (Learn more about Omar Lucas in The Misadventures of Jim Cat and Omar Lucas posts)
So here is how I would imagine how our cats would start a house fire:
First of all, it wouldn't be on a Thursday like the Chattanooga cats. No, our cats would wait until Sunday when they would have a better opportunity to throw a party and not get caught. Except it wouldn't even be a party because you would find Jim-Cat as always sitting by the door looking outside and wishing he could be an outside cat even though deep down he knows he's too high matinence for such a thing.
So if Jim-Cat is by the door how could he start a fire, you ask?
Remember as I said, he's not smart enough on his own to think of a such a thing it would take Omar-Lucas who would just so happen be making his neighborhood rounds around lunch time on that particular Sunday.
He would come to the other side of the door and as always squint his little eyes and taunt Jim-Cat into hysterics at the sight of him.
Then Omar-Lucas would convince Jim-Cat that he is capable of so much more and that he has no idea of the freedom and wild activity that he's missing out on.
Next Jim-Cat would feel he has something to prove and would ask Omar-Lucas for any ideas on how he too could be wild and reckless.
In which Omar-Lucas would respond,
"Well, you know big Jim it is Lunch time and well, seeing that we're both starving, obviously me more than you, why don't you get in there and warm us up something to eat."
In which Jim-Cat would respond back,
"Of course why didn't I think of that?"
"That's the difference between me and you big Jim. That's why you're still an inside cat."
So Jim-Cat, feeling like he has something to prove would jump up on the stove and,
Wait, wait, wait. I'm giving him too much credit.
Jim-cat would pry the door to the downstairs open and Omar-Lucas would make his way up the dryer vent, up the stairs and into our house as he's proven in the past he could do, and from there we continue our story.
"So big Jim where do they keep the food?"
"Well, there's this round thing they keep up in the freezer they seem to eat that a lot."
"Frozen, round thing...Pizza yeah that's it, delicious!"
So Jim-Cat uses his tubby cat strength to pry open the freezer while Omar-Lucas fiddles with the buttons on the stove.
Next what follows is only known among a secret society of felines on how they are able to open a stove and insert pizza. What we are sure of is the following...
The stove overheats, pizza starts to burn and a fire starts in the kitchen.'
Jim-Cat would retreat to his safe spot which is behind the toilet and Omar-Lucas would be the one leaving the scene, but like I said this is our version, and in our version Omar Lucas, in his ever trying attempt to be an indoor cat would summon super cat strength, and Drag Jim-Cat downstairs, shove him through the dryer vent then stick around until we showed up to ensure his hero status of rescuing our beloved indoor cat, that we know would not be capable of such a thing.
And the headline would read as others
Cats start house fire, cause unknown.
