A Summer's rain portrait

I have been paitently waiting on one good summer's rain to get to do this art project with my daughter. This afternoon offered such an opportunity. this month we will be doing a review of all the colors we've been learning about since Jan. so I decided to do a rainbow theme.
Today we made "Rain"bow paintings. All you need is plain white construction paper taped to a box or piece of cardboard for an easel to paint on, washable paint...

An egg carton lid to put the different colors of the rainbow in...

one eager toddler, ready to go play in the rain...
a light cool drizzle of rain, and as you can see here, lots of concentration...
The end result?
One unique masterpiece!!!
What makes this project so neat is while you are outside the rain drizzles on the paper causing the colors to bleed into eachother and it gives you an opportunity to talk about how red and blue make purple, and how you can mix colors to make other colors. For older children you can go even deeper by explaining how rainbows occur on a rainy day when the sun comes out.
Have fun!!!!
