Enough already!

For those that typically follow this blog you know that I don't useally get on soap boxes around here. In fact I typically lean toward the "to each their own" mentality and leave debate for the other blogs.
My original title for this post was 'Sorry Charlie' but I then changed it because this man has given too many "sorry's" and recieved weekly "forgiveness" from Monday night viewers. The Charlie in mention is Charlie Sheen current star of the Monday night comedy 'Two and a Half Men'. Sheen has been notorious for some time for drug use and is almost at the end of his probabtion over an assault of his ex-wife Denise Richards. This week police were called to The Plaza hotel when a porn actress (Christina Walsh) had called them while locked in a bathroom fearing for her life. Sheen was heavily intoxicated and destroyed the room. Accourding to The Today show this morning it has now been reported there was even blood on the carpet of the hotel room. The twist and upsetting part of this ordeal is that Sheen's children and ex-wife were sleeping just across the hall. The family was on a vacation together.

The discussion this morning and what lies at the root of this problem for me is "What about this man's children?" It is understood that these children have undoubtly seen his outrage toward their mother but what mental damage is being done when incidents like what happened this week occur just across the hall from them on what should be "family time"?

Wendy Murphy Federal Prosecutor and child advocate spoke on the Today Show saying

"This country doesn't care nearly enough about violence against women. If the women in (Charlie Sheen) his life have an I don't Give a damn attitude then women as a class in this country should give a damn"

This man who has been called by the media Teflon Charlie because no charges or accounts seem to stick to him repeatidly gets off the hook for charges that the typical citizen even celebrity would do time in jail over. Unfortunatley ratings for his show will be off the charts in the coming week due to people tuning in simply because of the sick event.

So how can mothers, sisters, wives and women's group make any effect? Accouring to Charles Deutch Chairmen of Deutsch Inc (advertising agency) the place that will make the most impact is in the advertising for the Monday night show Two and a Half Men

"If something comes forward where the Sheen/Richards children are in danger advertisers will say "No Thank You" and pull out ads. When paren groups start writing to advertisers such as Proctor and Gamble and Ford, moral issues aside, they will not want to deal with that."

If this issue bothers you as much as it botherd me this morning please take a moment of your time to tell the sales and advertisers at Proctor & Gamble and Ford (amoung many others) how it irritates you and how you don't want to support a company that supports actors who get away with violence toward women.

I even made it super easy for you here are the direct links to do so! You're Welcome!
